My experience

My life and work experience, in a variety of challenging areas, combined with my natural compassion and empathy for people, makes me quite a unique counsellor.

Whatever you are going through, or have been through, I will be here willing to support you.

Counselling Psychotherapist

I am a fully qualified and registered member of both the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and the FDAP (Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals).

Counselling in a prison

I provided personal therapy within HMRC prison service. The work, although often difficult, gave me a greater insight into the behaviours people display when mental health issues are not addressed. It also taught me change is always possible, and just how powerful being listened to and understood is to people. It led me to a greater understanding of my role as therapist.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centres

I worked with people with addiction in a residential rehab centre. I supported people through detox and facilitated group therapy. I also worked with families to support them as they learned new tools to support loved ones. I developed my skills working with couples and families, particularly the expectations we have of each other and the roles people play in families.

A school counsellor

I have experience working with young people as a school counsellor. This gave me a great insight into the world of a young adult as it is today. I understand and can empathise with the pressures and expectations that are placed on young people and the consequences this can have on them – for example drugs, alcohol, substance misuse, self-harm, and loneliness.

Mental health charity MIND

I trained with the mental health charity MIND, and I continued to volunteer with them, helping to support young people with mental health issues.

Bereavement charity CRUSE

I trained with the charity CRUSE, as a bereavement counsellor volunteer. As a specialist charity their training in grief was exceptional. I gained greater insight into the effects of grief and loss and how this can manifest itself in people.

My private practice

I have been running my private practice for over 10 years, working with people experiencing a diverse range of issues. Find out more on the How I can help page.

I have a particular specialism helping individuals with mental health issues and psychosexual problems, and the often devastating effects that these can have on both the individual and the people closest to them.

I love learning and take part in continuous professional development. My current CPD project is on Neuroscience.
